iPhone X production in India to begin in July, latest models to follow – local report

We’ve been hearing reports for some time that Foxconn is gearing up for iPhone X production in India, and a new report says that volume production is set to begin in July.

The earliest report – at that time quite vague – was in December of last year. That said only that ‘top-end iPhones’ could be made in India by Foxconn ‘as early as 2019,’ alongside iPhone 8 production by Wistron …

With Music for macOS coming soon, legacy iTunes features will disappear or spread to iOS

The big news this week is that this fall may finally be the beginning of the end for iTunes. 9to5Mac’s Gui Rambo independently confirmed that the next major version of macOS will introduce standalone Music and Podcasts apps on the Mac. iTunes is expected to stick around for now, which suggests Apple’s new apps won’t include every legacy feature, but iPad-based versions of Music and Podcasts would actually introduce features to the Mac that aren’t available yet.

ARKit-based SDK set to offer indoor AR navigation for malls, airports, more

A new company called Dent Reality is in the final development stages of bringing a sharp augmented reality indoor navigation platform to iOS for malls, airports, retail stores, and more. The developer built the SDK on ARKit and says it found a unique solution to highly accurate indoor location tracking without the need for iBeacons or other hardware.

Uber labels Apple autonomous driving competitor, warns investors of App Store reliance

Uber today officially filed for its IPO, revealing in regulatory documents that it generated $11.27 billion in revenue during 2018 with an overall loss of $1.85 billion. In the filling, Uber also outlined its competition, citing Apple as both a competitor and a company on which it heavily relies.

Apple faces antitrust investigation in Europe over Apple Music and Apple News

Apple is facing a Dutch antitrust investigation into whether it favors its own apps over those of rival developers. It looks likely to have an initial focus on Apple Music and Apple News, but will probably extend to other app categories, and may also include Google’s Play store.

Spotify has already filed a complaint with the European Commission, alleging that Apple Music has an unfair advantage over Spotify, and today’s report references that and says that ‘apps for news media’ is another focus …
